Meet Rebecca Hubbard - Columbus Cottage #2

000_0002.JPGShe was born in 1941 in Russell County, Alabama. She is the youngest of 11 siblings.  On March 24, 1968 she married the love of her life, Michael Hubbard or as she lovingly refers to as her “Little Lamby Pie”.  Through this union four children were born Jason, Betty, Al and Deborah.  Mr. Hubbard drove a truck for Martha White and worked for Southland Chemicals pouring cement for swimming pools.  Mrs. Hubbard worked in the child care industry until her husband became ill in 2005 at which time she quit working to care for him. Mr. Hubbard later passed away of prostate cancer on March 20, 2008.

For 40 years Mrs. Hubbard has called 50th street home.  The expenses and up keep have proven to be too much for her to maintain.  The corrosion of water pipes, sinking floors and termite damage have caused the house to be almost impossible to live in.  She has no running water, she baths and cooks with bottled water.

Her faith in God has kept her believing that change will come.  It is time to give Mrs. Hubbard the change she has been praying for.

NeighborWorks® and the City of Columbus chose Rebecca Hubbard as Columbus Cottage #2 Recipient.

Mrs. Hubbard received her keys to her new home in November 2009.
